Applications are invited for the World Bank Internship programme which provides graduate students practical experience in global development. This Internship typically seeks candidates in the following fields: economics, finance, human development (public health, education, nutrition, and population), social science (anthropology, sociology), agriculture, environment, private sector development as well as other related fields. This is a paid internship. The only variation in salary among interns is that U.S. nationals are paid a gross salary for tax reasons and foreign nationals are paid a net salary. Interns are responsible for their housing and subsistence from their salaries. Internship application deadline is January 31 2015.

Eligibility: -To be eligible for the Internship, candidates must possess an undergraduate degree and already be enrolled in a full-time graduate study program (pursuing a Master’s degree or PhD with plans to return to school in a full-time capacity).
-Generally, successful candidates have completed their first year of graduate studies or are already into their PhD programs.
– Fluency in English is required.
-Prior relevant work experience, computing skills, as well as knowledge of languages such as French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Portuguese, and Chinese are advantageous.

Is this paid internship? Yes, The Bank pays an hourly salary to all Interns and, where applicable, provides an allowance towards travel expenses. Interns are responsible for their own living accommodations.

The Commonwealth Professional Fellowships 2015 – Round 1

The Commonwealth Professional Fellowships 2015 – Round 1 is now open. The Fellowship program is an opportunity for midcareer professionals from developing Commonwealth countries to spend a period of time with a UK host organization working in their field for a program of professional development.

Host/nominating organizations are required to identify suitable candidates themselves, through existing organizational networks or other channels. Candidates from any developing commonwealth country listed below are highly encouraged to identify UK host/nominating organization and apply for the fellowship program.

Benefits to Candidates

1. A return airfare from the Fellow’s home country to the UK.
2. £1,563 per month (£1,938 per month for those based in the London Metropolitan area) living allowance.
3. Up to £878.17 arrival allowance including an element for warm clothing and reimbursement of the visa application fee.
4. A fixed amount for excess baggage for return travel only, dependent on the airport destination.
5. £800 contribution to the costs of the host/nominating organization.
6. Fees for any conferences or short courses attended during the period of the Fellowship, providing that these are approved as part of the original application.
7. Candidates can claim up to £3,000 reasonable fees in the context of the length of the program, but full justification should be given for the amount being claimed.

Eligibility Criteria

1. Host/Nominating organization must be UK-based. Organizations can apply either to host Fellows within their own organization, or to nominate candidates to work with other organizations with which they have links.
2. Candidates must be Commonwealth citizens, refugees or British protected persons. They must be permanent citizen of a developing Commonwealth country.
3. Normally, candidates should have at least five years’ relevant work experience in a profession related to the subject of the application, by the proposed start of the Fellowship.
4. Candidates must be available to start their Fellowship within prescribed dates.
5. Applicants should not have undertaken a Commonwealth Professional Fellowship in the last five years.
6. Candidates should not be seeking to undertake an academic program of research or study in the UK. Academics are eligible to apply for the scheme, but only to undertake programs of academic management, not research or courses relevant to their research subject.
7. Candidates should belong to one of the following developing commonwealth countries – Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Botswana, British Virgin Islands, Cameroon, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Falkland Islands, Fiji, Ghana, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guyana, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Malawi, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Montserrat, Mozambique, Namibia, Nauru, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Pitcairn Islands, Rwanda, St Helena, St Kitts & Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent & the Grenadines, Samoa, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Swaziland, Tanzania, Tonga, Trinidad & Tobago, Tristan da Cunha, Turks & Caicos, Islands, Tuvalu, Uganda, Vanuatu, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
8. Applications must be for Professional Fellowships starting between 1 May 2015 and 31 December 2015.

Application Procedure

1. Applications must be submitted using the CSC’s Electronic Application System (EAS). To do this, the organization should write to the CSC on their organization’s headed paper providing the full name and email address of the person who will make the application and who will act as the main contact should the Fellowship go ahead. This letter can be sent as an attachment by email. Then the organization will be set as Nominator on the EAS. Organizations that have been previously registered on the EAS can use the login and password already provided, but should send an email to inform the CSC that they intend to make an application in 2015 (Round 1).
2. The first section of the form should be completed by a representative of the host/nominating organization; the second section of the form should then be completed by the prospective Fellow(s).
3. If an organization is nominating Fellows for another organization to host, the nominating organization (making the application) is responsible for securing a signed statement from the host organization, indicating its agreement to the arrangements proposed and the formation of a detailed program of activities from the outset, to include with the application.
4. Two references must be submitted for each Fellow. Applications without reference will not be considered.
